Thursday, February 6, 2014 | Track and Field
NEW ORLEANS, La. -- Florida junior jumper Ciarra Brewer is now receiving votes in the latest The Bowerman Women's Watch List, released Thursday for the month of February. Brewer, who holds the nation's best mark in the triple jump (13.55m/44-5.5), joins three other Gators who were named to The Bowerman Preseason Watch Lists and all of whom remain for February's Men's and Women's versions: Cory McGee (receiving votes), Arman Hall (top 10) & Marquis Dendy (receiving votes).
Brewer was named the SEC Women's Field Athlete of the Week Feb. 4 for her performance at the Razorback Invitational where she achieved her nation-leading triple jump performance to take top honors in the event in Fayetteville last weekend. Brewer also has a season-best 5.92m/19-5.25 long jump from the Rod McCravy Memorial Jan. 24.
McGee paces the SEC in the 3000m (9:18.26) and ranks 15th in the country in the event, while the Florida women's DMR checks in third in the nation (11:00.16) and first in the league. Hall has continued to impress in both the 200m & 400m events, while serving as a mainstay on UF's world-leading 4x4 relay (3:04.46). Hall ranks second in the country and SEC in both the 200m (20.71) and 400m (45.63), while Dendy, who competed in his first jumps of the indoor season at the Razorback Invitational Jan. 31-Feb. 1, boasts the best long jump in the country to this point in the indoor season (7.87m/25-10).
The Gators will compete two more weekends to conclude indoor invitational competition – including participation at the Doc Hale Virginia Tech Elite Meet Feb. 7-8 and the Texas A&M Invitational Feb. 15 before hitting the road for the 2014 SEC Indoor Championships back at Texas A&M in College Station Feb. 27-March 1.
