No. 15 Gators Fall at Arkansas, 4-3
Saturday, March 29, 2014 | Men's Tennis
The No. 15 Florida men's tennis team could not overcome an early deficit and fell 4-3 to Arkansas at the Dills Indoor Center in Fayetteville this evening.
The Razorbacks took the first point of the match with back-to-back 8-3 wins on doubles courts one and two. Responding immediately in singles play, 79th-ranked freshman Elliott Orkin put the Gators on the board with a dominant two-set win over UA's Pete Thomason at No. 6 to knot the match at 1.
While UF freshman Maxx Lipman tied up the match late, 3-3, with a win at No. 3 singles, the Gators could not take down the Razorbacks as Manfred Jeske clinched the match for Arkansas at court two singles. This marks the second win all-time for Arkansas men's tennis over the Florida squad.
Shelton Says: “Arkansas played very good, aggressive tennis today. We got behind from the start in both singles and doubles with a lot of uncharacteristic mistakes. You could see their confidence grow throughout the match and we did not recover. It is a very bitter pill to swallow. We now have to prepare for our match Sunday against LSU.”
