Gators Tie for 10th at 2014 SEC Women's Golf Championship
Sunday, April 20, 2014 | Women's Golf
The Florida women's golf team earned their 10th top-10 finish of the season at the 2014 SEC Women's Golf Championship this weekend at Greystone Golf and Country Club.
Freshman Maria Torres put together three rounds of solid golf in her first SEC tournament, 72-73-74, to earn her second top-10, fifth top-25, individual finish of her freshman campaign. Torres rolled off a team-best nine birdies and one eagle over the three rounds on the Founder's Course.
It was a talented field, as eight of the 14 SEC teams are ranked in the top-25, but the No. 20 Gators tied for 10th place on the team leaderboard at the end of day three. Vanderbilt won the SEC Championship with a final score of 879 (+15).
Head Coach Emily Glaser Says: “It was a disappointing day for our team. We got off to a terrible start through about six holes and were never able to rebound.
“Maria fought hard today after her own tough start, and her three birdies coming in on the back nine really show what kind of a competitor she is. She had a great SEC tournament and led our team as a freshman.
“It was a humbling week, but we have some important golf left to play this season and we will turn our attention to the future.”
