Wednesday, May 28, 2014 | Track and Field
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Florida track and field teams, ranked No. 1 (men) and No. 2 (women) in the country entering the heart of the postseason, are just one sleep away from starting the next step to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore.
Just 70 miles away from home, the Orange and Blue will take to the track at the 2014 NCAA East Preliminary, hosted by UNF in Jacksonville May 29-31 at Hodges Stadium, aiming for top-12 finishes in each respective event in order to advance to the NCAA Finals site at Historic Hayward Field in Eugene June 11-14.
The Gators qualified 37 individuals – 20 women's athletes and 17 Gator men – for NCAA preliminaries, announced by the NCAA May 22, including SEC Co-Women's Field Athlete of the Year Ciarra Brewer, the nation's leading triple jumper on the women's side. Brewer headlined a staggering 22 Florida student-athletes named to the 2014 All-SEC teams Tuesday.
