
Gator Softball Places 12 on SEC Academic Honor Rolls

A dozen University of Florida softball student-athletes earned recognition from the Southeastern Conference for their success in the classroom to wrap up the 2013-14 academic year. Nine softball players were named to the 2014 SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll this week, part of a group of 72 UF student-athletes honored across all sports. In addition, two UF freshmen and one transfer made up a portion of the 55 first-year Gators named to the SEC's First-Year Academic Honor Roll.
Following a season in which they helped capture the Gator Softball program's first national championship, junior Bailey Castro, junior Jessica Damico, junior Briana Little, junior Kathlyn Medina, sophomore Kirsti Merritt, sophomore Aubree Munro, senior Hannah Rogers, sophomore Taylor Schwarz and senior Stephanie Tofft all were named to the SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll for the Orange and Blue.
Freshmen Chelsea Herndon and Justine McLean and junior transfer Francesca Martinez were selected to the First-Year Academic Honor Roll.
To be named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll, each student-athlete must 1) have a GPA of 3.00 for either the preceding academic year or have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above at the nominating institution; 2) be on scholarship, a letterwinner or have participated on a varsity team for two years if non-scholarship; 3) have completed 24 semester hours of non-remedial credit at the nominating institution; and 4) have been a member of the varsity team for the sport's entire NCAA Championship segment.
To be selected to the SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll, each student-athlete must 1) have a GPA of 3.00 for either the preceding academic year or have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above at the nominating institution; 2) be on scholarship, a letterwinner; 3) have completed 24 semester hours of non-remedial credit at the nominating institution; and 4) have been a member of the varsity team for the sport's entire NCAA Championship segment.
