Wednesday, August 13, 2014 | Track and Field
Zϋrich, Switzerland -- Florida rising senior thrower Stipe Zunic's success in the shot put throughout the last year for the Orange and Blue has trickled into summer. Zunic shattered a 22-year-old school record when he captured the 2014 SEC Outdoor Title in the shot put, a mark he then improved as the top finisher at the NCAA Preliminary Rounds in Jacksonville (20.60m/67-7).
Zunic has delivered again, this time on an international stage at the 2014 European Championships in Zϋrich. Representing his native Croatia, Zunic first advanced out of qualifying with 19.94m best attempt, and went on to finish fourth in finals of the shot at Letzigrund Stadium with a new school record and personal-best mark, 20.68m/67-10.25.
It was his second of six attempts that got the job done as Zunic set a new standard to chase his senior season at Florida in 2014-15.
Meanwhile, in qualifying of the women's 1500m, 2013-14 senior Agata Strausa clocked a 4:17.61, 22nd in the field.

Former Gator great Kemal Mesic, representing Bosnia and Herzegovina, also competed in qualifying rounds of the shot put, turning in a best 18.81m/61-8.5.
