Gator Rookies Start Strong at Bedford Cup

All three Gator newcomers competing at the 2014 Bedford Cup advanced in their respective singles draws on the opening day of play at the University of North Florida Tennis Complex on Friday.
Jordan Belga (Boca Raton, Fla.), Chase Perez-Blanco (Miami, Fla.) and Josh Wardell (Fort Myers, Fla.) advanced to the second round of main draw singles in the first event of the season. Richard Brej (Long Grove, Ill.) will continue singles action in the consolation draw.
The No. 4-seeded Gator duo of Perez-Blanco and Wardell received a first round bye in their debut doubles pairing, but dropped their second round match to Florida State's Jack Haffey and Jo?o Gauer.

“We had three guys playing in their first college match today for the Gators and that was exciting. The Bedford Cup is a great place for these guys to get their feet wet. We were better in singles play today overall, but everyone competed hard with great attitudes in some tough conditions.”
“This team is a pleasure to work with and we are getting better daily. We're looking forward to getting back out there tomorrow as we have some great matches.”
