Gators With a Solid Start at SEC Fall Classic

An early afternoon rain delay made for an extended but successful opening day at the SEC Fall Classic for the Gators.
The tournament kicked off with the first round of doubles play. Three of four Gators doubles duos advanced to the second round. Josh Wardell and Oliver Landert as well as Gordon Watson and Diego Hidalgo handily defeated their respective doubles pairings of Bartosz Sawicki and Sunay Bhat of Tennessee and Gustav Hansson and Zach Wilder of Ole Miss, 8-2 each. Elliott Orkin and Maxx Lipman took their first round doubles superset, 8-6, over South Carolina's Sam Swank and Andrew Schafer. All three Gators doubles pairings advanced to the quarterfinals by the end of the evening.
Freshman Chase Perez-Blanco advanced to the Round of 16 in singles joining Lipman, Hidalgo, Orkin and Watson in the second round of main draw singles.
Due to the extended day of action today, tomorrow's events will begin at 9 a.m.

“I feel great. There's always some first tournament jitters, but this year I got off to a better start in my first tournament of the year than last year so it feels good to make it through the first day of the tournament and advance to the second rounds.”
On keeping tabs on your teammates' matches throughout the day…
“I got to see a lot of the other guys on the team play because I got done with my doubles and singles before it rained and everyone looked like they were playing really well. I thought the freshmen did a great job in their first tournament and it's always exciting to see the young guys doing well.”
On preparing for tomorrow after a long first day due to the rain delay…
“It's a short turnaround but just doing the right things tonight, eating well and rehabbing and making sure I feel well. As long as I do those things I think I can represent the school well and do the things I need to be successful.”
