Eddie Shannon Named 2015 SEC Basketball Legend
Tuesday, January 20, 2015 | Men's Basketball
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Eddie Shannon made his mark as a Gator helping usher in the Billy Donovan Era, and his career culminated with being a team captain on Donovan's first NCAA Sweet 16 team. Now, the SEC will recognize Shannon's accomplishments by making him part of the 2015 class of SEC Basketball Legends.
"I am extremely honored and humbled by such a distinct accomplishment," Shannon said. "The SEC has fielded many great players that have gone on to make major contributions to the game of basketball. To be selected into the 2015 SEC Men's Basketball Legends class is truly gratifying. Congratulations to all of the other recipients. Go Gators/SEC!"
Shannon, a four-year starter who scored 1,168 points in the Orange and Blue, will be honored at the Gators' first game at this year's SEC Tournament, held March 11-15 at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville. Shannon averaged 10.1 points per game throughout his Florida career and was named the 1999 Frontier Most Courageous Player for demonstrating extraordinary courage beyond the playing floor.
Shannon totaled nine 20-point performances as a Gator and played professionally overseas and was the 2002 Swedish League scoring champion, Guard of the Year and Finals MVP.
The West Palm Beach native now serves as assistant head coach at Palm Beach Atlantic University in his hometown.
