No. 1/2 Gators Sweep Jumps, Blaze Up the Track to Wrap Up Razorback Invitational
Saturday, January 31, 2015 | Track and Field
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- A sweep of the men's and women's triple jumps by Marquis Dendy and Ciarra Brewer and several noteworthy performances on the track, including a world-leading 400m mark (45.34) by Najee Glass, capped off competition at the Razorback Invitational for the No. 1/2 University of Florida track and field program Saturday evening in Fayetteville.
Glass put up the best indoor 400m performance of his career as a Gator with the top time in the world so far this season to move up to fourth all-time in the Florida record book in the race. Florida women's sprinter Shayla Sanders used a season-best mark to claim top honors in the women's 60m (7.29) and Ryan Schnulle cruised to a PR and event victory in the 800m (1:47.89) to climb up a spot on UF's top-10 list and solidify a top-three mark in the country. In the men's 60-meter hurdles, sophomore Yanick Hart continued to go low, notching a runner-up finish in finals Saturday with the best run of his young career (7.82).
Dendy (15.78m/51-9.25) and Brewer (13.58m/44-6.75) both continued their winning ways in the triple jump to kick start Saturday's action for the Gators at the Randal Tyson Track Center.
Next up, the Orange and Blue will head to the Virginia Tech Elite meet Feb. 6-7 in Blacksburg, Va.
HEARING OUT HOLLOWAY
“I'm very proud of the team as a whole this weekend. I thought we did a great job of stepping up and matching the intensity of the other schools in the building. (Ryan) Schnulle did a great job in his race with a new PR and I thought Skylar (Ross-Ransom) had a great first meet back following an injury. Robin (Reynolds) did a great job in the 400 and also props to all of the guys in the men's 400 -- almost all had PRs, including Najee (Glass) with the fastest time in the world right now.
We're really looking forward to the rest of the season. Right now, we'll get back to Gainesville, get rested a little bit and get back to work on Monday.”
