No. 17 Gators Bounce Back, Sweep Texas A&M
Saturday, October 10, 2015 | Volleyball
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Sophomore middle blocker Rhamat Alhassan slammed down a career-high 18 kills and hit a season-best .810 as the No. 17 Gators bounced back from a three-match skid with a 3-0 sweep of Texas A&M Friday at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center in UF's Saluting Those Who Serve match.
It was a total team effort as Florida (10-4, 2-3 SEC) hit a season-best .517 and had its lowest error match of the season, with just six attack errors and three service errors, in the straight-set victory (25-9, 25-23, 25-18). It all started with the Gators' first contact led by senior libero Nikki O'Rourke in the back row. O'Rourke turned in 10 digs, but Carli Snyder and éiva Recek also combined for 15 digs on the night. Senior setter Mackenzie Dagostino set a stellar match with 43 assists, her second-most in a three-setter this year.
The Orange and Blue served up six aces and posted six blocks en route UF's 11th straight win over Texas A&M (9-6, 2-2 SEC).
Florida cruised to a 25-9 win in the first set before a closer contested 25-23 victory in the second to head in to the break ahead 2-0. The third, a 25-18 decision in favor of the home team, featured four ties and two lead changes, but was a fun one thanks in part to four service aces -- back-to-back aces by both setters Mackenzie Dagostino and Abby Detering early and late in the frame, respectively.
Four Gators, including Alhassan, hit above .400 on the night, Snyder an error-free and season-best .545, junior right side Alex Holston a season-best .524 and senior middle Simone Antwi a .429 clip with seven kills and a team-high three blocks.
Next up, Auburn (11-5) comes to town Sunday after a sweep at South Carolina Friday night. While Sunday will serve as the Gators' Green Match, the first 500 fans will receive an orange Gator Volleyball tumbler.
MARY'S MINUTE
“Tonight's performance was a reflection of a great week of practice. This team embraced the opportunity to get better, we finally had the full team at practice and we were able to take full advantage of it. Tonight was a night that we played very well against a very good Texas A&M team and the goal is to build on this and see similar results Sunday.”
