Florida Looks to Improve in Round 2 of Tavistock Collegiate

The 18th-ranked University of Florida men's golf team opened the Tavistock Collegiate in 12th place after posting a 15-over 303 in the first round on Sunday.
Sophomore Alejandro Tosti shot a 7 on the par-3 second hole, but went on to collect nothing but birdies and pars during the rest of the round. He wrapped up the day tied for 30th with a 2-over 74.
Freshman Jorge Garcia and junior Ryan Orr both recorded scores of 4-over 76. Freshman Sam Horsfield contributed a 5-over 77, while freshman Kyler Tate carded an 8-over 80.
California leads the team competition with a score of 9-under 279, and the Golden Bears' Colin Morikawa is in first individually with a 5-under 67.
The Gators aim to move up in the standings when they return to the Isleworth Country Club on Monday for Round 2. Florida begins teeing off at 8:25 a.m.
Head Coach JC Deacon:
On Round 1:
“I think we are all really disappointed with today. We didn't come ready to play. We've been struggling this year getting off to good starts and it kind of reared its head again today. We have to figure that out. I don't think our focus level was quite where it needed to be before the tournament, but we're out on the range getting some practice in right now. We'll come back better tomorrow.”
On Alejandro Tosti rebounding after a rough start:
“That was a huge step for him because that's the only bit of his game holding him back, but his attitude was great. He obviously got off to a horrendous start, but he kept it in perspective and realized that he had a lot of holes left. He played about as good as anyone in the field the last 16 holes of the day. I'm really proud of him, and I know he's going to keep it up the next two days.”
