FLUSHING, N.Y. – The University of Florida women's tennis team had a successful day at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships on Thursday.
The Billie Jean King National Tennis Center saw two Gators advance to the round of 16 in the singles draw. The No. 32-ranked Belinda Woolcock defeated California's No. 16-ranked Klara Fabikova, 7-5, 5-7, 6-4. Gator sophomore Brooke Austin was victorious in her match against Taylor Davidson of Stanford, 6-4, 6-2. In other singles action, Mississippi State's Jasmine Lee defeated Kourtney Keegan, 6-1, 6-2.
Doubles action saw both Gator tandems advancing to the quarterfinals. The No. 54-ranked duo of Josie Kuhlman and Woolcock defeated the No. 13-ranked Virginia pair of Elbaba and Morton, 6-2, 7-6(5), 10-4. Austin and Keegan came back in their match from a set down to earn a victory against the Stanford pair of Davidson and Doyle, 4-6, 6-2, 10-7.
The Gators will continue competition tomorrow in the quarterfinal rounds.
Coach Thornqvist's Thoughts on the day:
“I thought we had a great day overall. We are playing the deuce point better in each tournament, which will be crucial in the spring. Our increased lifting with Tyler (Stuart) in the weight room is also making a difference. Overall, I am very pleased with the day.”

The singles draw features 32 of the nation's elite college tennis players. 11 of the top 15 ranked players in the nation will be competing at the Indoor Championships, headlined by UF's No. 2-ranked Austin. Doubles action will see 20 doubles pairings, including five in the top 15, including the No. 1-ranked Gator pairing of Austin and Keegan.
