
Chase Perez-Blanco Named SEC Freshman of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Freshman Chase Perez-Blanco of the No. 15 University of Florida men's tennis team was named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week on Wednesday, March 18 by the conference office.
Perez-Blanco earned his first career SEC honor after his match-clinching performance for the Gators over No. 66 Alabama, 4-2, on Sunday, March 15 to cap a perfect 2-0 conference weekend at home for the Orange and Blue.
The Miami, Fla., native has posted a singles point for UF in five of his last six outings and clinched the second match of his career on Sunday. He improved to 2-0 in three-set matches with a 4-6, 6-0, 6-1 victory over the Crimson Tide's Stuart Kenyon. Earlier in the week, Perez-Blanco defeated his first ranked opponent of the dual match season, No. 68 Ralf Steinbach, and posted the only point for the Gators in their 4-1 loss to top-10 ranked Ohio State
The rookie boasts the best individual dual match singles record on the team (9-1) and remains undefeated in SEC singles action (4-0). Perez-Blanco has not lost a singles match since January 25.
The Gators embark on a three-match conference road trip, opening with No. 56 Arkansas on Friday, March 20 at 3 p.m. in Fayetteville, Ark.
