Wednesday, March 18, 2015 | Women's Swimming & Diving
GREENSBORO, N.C. - Florida's group of 11 swimmers and one diver are in Greensboro, N.C. for the 2015 NCAA Championships and begin what hopes to be a special week tomorrow, as the three-day meet gets underway. Prelims will begin at 11 a.m. and finals will start at 7 p.m. each day at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
Of the 12 Gators competing this week, six are returners from last year's championships. In addition, Florida ranks tied for sixth with the most swimmers who qualified for the meet.
UF is looking for its fourth NCAA Championship, as the Gators most recently won the women's title in 2010 under current head coach Gregg Troy. A season ago, Florida finished sixth overall after scoring 239 points. UF finished in the top 10 for the 14th consecutive season and it placed sixth for the second consecutive year under Coach Troy.
Overall, the Gators amassed 15 All-American swims and broke six school records over the course of the three day meet.
NC State University is serving as the host school for the Championships.

On the NCAA Championships overall…
“We have a good group of women going to the NCAA meet this week and I've been real pleased with our last two weeks of training. Obviously we'd like to have a few more individuals going and competing this week, but we've been real slim all season depth wise. So our girls that we will have competing will have to step up and race tough, as it will be a wide open meet. There a couple of real fantastic teams competing this week in Georgia and Cal, but there are also a lot of schools that are going who are in very similar situations to us. We are all looking forward to getting started on Thursday.”
On what individuals he expects to standout this week…
“Natalie Hinds has been one of our team leaders all along and she is one of the best sprinters in the country, so we feel pretty good about her. Jessica Thielmann is very good for us in the distance freestyle events. Also, we have some younger girls who have stepped up, such as Ashlee Linn as she has really stepped up in the backstroke. But, the key for us is going to be how well we can swim the relays.”
