Thursday, March 5, 2015 | Women's Tennis
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The No. 2 Florida Gators compete in their next four matches on the road, beginning with a conference road trip to No. 46 LSU on Friday, March 6 for a 5 p.m. match at the 'Dub' Robinson Stadium in Baton Rouge, La.
Florida holds a 40-1 all-time record versus Louisiana State. The only loss for the Gators against the Tigers occurred in Baton Rouge.
UF kicked off Southeastern Conference action with a 2-0 weekend, picking up wins against a No. 9-ranked Alabama squad, 4-1, and a then-No. 30 Auburn team, 5-0. The Gators clinched the doubles point for the first time in three matches versus the Tigers. Freshman Brooke Austin and sophomore Belinda Woolcock posted two singles wins apiece over the weekend. Woolcock leads the Gators in singles action this season with an 8-1 record.
Thornqvist's Thoughts – Head Coach Roland Thornqvist
On the upcoming four-match road swing…
It'll be fun, actually. As a group, I thought we did really well together at National Indoors. It's going to be interesting to see, obviously playing at LSU and at [Texas] A&M. Last time we were at A&M we lost. They have a good team, so we'll have to play just as well on the road as we are at home and I hope we can handle the focus part and preparing in practices. Obviously, that's very important.
Last Time:
Last season, Florida secured its 190th all-time win at home versus an SEC team with a 4-0 sweep of LSU at Linder Stadium.
Familiar Face:
Current LSU head coach Julia S. Sell played No. 1 singles for the 2003 National Championship Florida women's tennis team under head coach Roland Thornqvist.
Big Stage Bri
Junior Brianna Morgan has clinched a team-leading four matches for the Gators. Most recently, she secured a conference win for her squad versus Auburn, just seconds before Belinda Woolcock earned a singles win on Court 4 to make it a 5-0 victory.
Woolcock Is Clutch:
Sophomore Belinda Woolcock has clinched three matches for the Gators this season, including Friday's 4-1 win over Alabama. Woolcock boasts the best dual match singles record on the team (8-1) and is 5-1 in dual match doubles with Spencer Liang at No. 3.
Going the Distance in Doubles:
The Gators are 7-0 in dual matches when winning the doubles point this season. The No. 1 Florida tandem, No. 5-ranked Brooke Austin and Kourtney Keegan, and No. 3 pairing Spencer Liang and Belinda Woolcock have each dropped just one doubles match in dual matches this season.
#2 Florida (10-1, 2-0) vs. #46 LSU (9-4, 1-1)
