GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Former Florida track and field Gator great athletes Beth Farmer and Candice Scott are two of seven Gator Greats that will be inducted into the UF Athletics Hall of Fame Friday at UF's Holloway Touchdown Terrace inside Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.
In addition to Farmer and Scott, this year's Hall of Fame induction class also includes Gator Greats Camilo Beneditti (Men's Golf), Matt Bonner (Men's Basketball), Nicole McCray Thorn (Volleyball), Camilo Villegas (Men's Golf) and Stephanie Zunich Donley (Women's Swimming & Diving).
Both Farmer and Scott left their marks on the Florida track and field program, Farmer in the early 80s and Scott just 10 years ago in the throws. A four-time SEC Champion on the track and a two-time cross country All-American, Farmer was a force for the distance Gators during her time at UF, while Scott reeled in five national championships in the weight and hammer throw while donning the Orange and Blue.
A former walk-on for the Gators, Farmer established herself as one of the best distance runners in school history, including a trip to U.S. Olympic Trials for the marathon. Farmer still ranks second all-time in the UF almanac with her 16:26.1 cross country 5k mark from October 1983, while her indoor 3k (9:18.37) and 5k (16:31.70) marks are fourth and sixth all-time. Outdoors, her 3k (9:19.37) and 10k times (32:49.1) still rank third, her 5k (16:07.8) fifth.
Scott, the school record-holder in both the weight throw and hammer throw, picked up the 2002, 2004 and 2005 indoor national titles in the weight throw, and was also crowned the 2003 and 2004 hammer throw champion outdoors. Throughout her collegiate career, Scott eclipsed the NCAA's best mark in the weight throw numerous times. Scott still stands on UF's all-time top-10 lists in four events, the shot put and weight throw indoors, and the shot and hammer throw outdoors.
