Team Notes
Florida (33-12/13-8 SEC) split four games last week, edging Bethune-Cookman, 2-1, before dropping two of three games to Eastern Division rival Kentucky (0-3, 6-7, 10-1)…The Gators return to action with a three-game set at Georgia (21-23/6-14 SEC) that begins on Friday night…UF has defeated the Bulldogs in six of the last seven regular-season series and head coach Kevin O'Sullivan has a 17-6 (.739) record against UGA…Junior left fielder Harrison Bader was a team-best 6-for-13 (.462) in the series with the Wildcats and ranks first on the Gators in slugging percentage (.643), on-base percentage (.450), walks (26) and doubles (12) and second in batting average (.338), RBI (45) and homers (11)…Sophomore right fielder Ryan Larson (.313, 23 runs) went 4-for-9 (.444) over the weekend and is second on UF in league games with a .339 clip, while sophomore first baseman Peter Alonso (.322) went 4-for-10 (.400)…The Gators are hitting .304 as team, have compiled a team earned run average of 3.29 and lead the nation with a .985 fielding percentage…Florida has played error-free ball in 24 of its 45 games and is 20-4 (.833) in those games…Senior third baseman Josh Tobias leads UF in both overall (.355) and SEC (.344) batting average and has 17 extra-base hits (eight doubles, five triples and four homers)…On the mound, senior left-hander Bobby Poyner is 3-1 with a team-low 1.87 ERA in 16 appearances and has collected three saves, while junior RHP Taylor Lewis is 2-1 with a 2.15 ERA and six saves and sophomore RHP Logan Shore (6-3, 2.44) and sophomore LHP A.J. Puk (6-3, 5.87) are tied for the team lead with six wins apiece...Freshman right-hander Alex Faedo (4-1, 2.52) yielded one run over 5.1 innings and a balanced offense with 16 hits helped Florida salvage Sunday's finale, 10-1…Bader (3-for-5), freshman Dalton Guthrie (3-for-4) and freshman Mike Rivera (2-for-3) each drove in multiple runs for the Gators…Over his last three starts, Faedo is 2-0 with a 2.93 ERA and has 12 strikeouts and two walks in 15.1 innings…Kentucky used a four-run second inning and threw out the potential tying run at the plate to end the game in a series-clinching 7-6 victory on Saturday night...Trailing 7-2 entering the final frame, the Gators used five hits and four runs to close within a run but could not push across the equalizer…Tobias led off with a single into right field and scored on a one-out double into right center field by Alonso (2-for-3)…With two down, Rivera singled into left field and Larson drew a walk to fill the sacks…Sophomore Logan Salow yielded a two-run, pinch-hit single up the middle to freshman Jeremy Vasquez for a 7-5 deficit…Sophomore Buddy Reed (2-for-5) followed with a base-knock into left field that brought home Larson and a throwing error on the play enabled the Gators to have runners on second and third…Junior Richie Martin (.322, 41 runs, 26 RBI) tried to plate freshman pinch runner Taylor Lane with a squeeze bunt but Salow fielded the bunt and was able to throw out Lane at the plate to complete the contest…A quartet of pitchers combined on a five-hitter as the Wildcats claimed the series opener, 3-0, on Friday night...Former Gator head coach Joe Arnold (1984-94) was recognized in a pregame ceremony for being named as a member of the 2015 College Baseball Hall of Fame Class…He led the Orange and Blue to 434 wins and a .640 winning percentage…In addition, his Gator teams appeared in the 1988 and '91 College World Series, the first two appearances in Omaha for UF…Arnold directed the squad to seven NCAA Tournament berths, a pair of Southeastern Conference titles in 1984 and 1988, three SEC East crowns in 1984, 1985 and 1992 and three of the program's sixth SEC Tournament Championships in 1984, 1988 and 1991…Tobias came through with a two-out RBI single in the eighth inning to score Martin with the winning run, as Florida nipped Bethune-Cookman, 2-1…Over 5.1 innings, junior right-hander Eric Hanhold had a career-high seven strikeouts and gave up five hits.
