Florida Fifth, Vlckova Second After Opening Round of the Women’s Golf Bryan National Collegiate

The Gators' women's golf team opened competition at its last regular-season tournament, the Bryan National Collegiate in Greensboro, N.C., on Friday. Florida scored +14 (302) as a team, to tie Michigan State for fifth place, while Virginia is leading the 18-team field with a +9 (297) score.
Sophomore Karolina Vlckova led the way for the Orange and Blue, recording the Gators' only sub-par round of the day, using six birdies to card a two-under par score and tie for second place. Seniors Camilla Hedberg and Anna Young sit in a tie for 31st place after scoring +5 (77) in Round 1.
The tournament will continue tomorrow with tee times beginning at 8:20 a.m. for the second round at the par-72 Bryan Park Champions 6,386-yard course.

Thoughts on the Gators' play on Friday:
“We didn't have our best start but I saw a lot of positive things out there. The conditions were tough, very windy and we did just a so-so job of staying patient. We talked about that after the round and I know the team is committed to that concept, as we have seen it work for us already this spring. It is forecasted to be even windier tomorrow, so our goal is to come out patient and ready to battle, to play smart and try to improve on today.”
On Karolina's under-par round:
“I'm very happy for Karolina and her round. She has been playing well, but she has continued to grind and has been committed to improving the small details in her game. She stayed very process-oriented today, and that will be the goal for her and the whole team over the next few days.”
