GAINESVILLE, Fla. – University of Florida men's golf assistant coach John Handrigan was named one of the three finalists for the 2015 Jan Strickland Award presented by TaylorMade-adidas Golf, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced Tuesday. The award honors the NCAA Division I, II, II, NAIA or NJCAA assistant coach who excels working with student-athletes, on and off of the course.
This season is Handrigan's fourth with the Gators. It's his first year with head coach JC Deacon after spending the previous few working alongside legendary Florida coach Buddy Alexander. While at UF, Handrigan's assistance has helped the Gators to four tournament victories. This year, his squad has recorded four runner-up performances and six top-five finishes.
Handrigan was also selected a finalist for the Strickland Award in 2013.
The other finalists are Oklahoma State's Brian Guetz and Kent State's Rob Wakeling. The winner will be invited to the TaylorMade-adidas Golf Kingdom in Carlsbad, Calif.
