Wednesday, May 20, 2015 | Men's Basketball
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - For the second straight season, the Florida men's basketball program has earned NCAA recognition for outstanding academics. The NCAA announced teams finishing within the top 10 percent nationall in Academic Progress Rate (APR) within their sports today, and Gator hoops was part of the list for the second straight year, posting a perfect score of 1000.
Each year, the NCAA honors selected Division I sports teams by publicly recognizing their latest multiyear NCAA Division I Academic Progress Rate, with the intent to highlight teams that demonstrate a commitment to academic progress and retention of student-athletes by achieving the top APRs within their respective sports.
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation to provide a measure of each team's academic performance. The most recent APRs are multi-year rates based on scores from 2010-14.
In 2014, the Gators set an SEC record with eight members on the SEC Academic Honor Roll and had seven players on the list this Spring.
Florida's softball and women's tennis teams were also recognized today.
