WACO, Texas – The Gators' postseason run came to an end Sunday afternoon as freshman Josie Kuhlman fell short in the NCAA Singles semifinals and freshman Brooke Austin and sophomore Kourtney Keegan were halted in the semifinal round of the NCAA Doubles Championship at the Hurd Tennis Center of Baylor University in Waco, Texas.
Kuhlman dropped a three-set decision to the No. 2-ranked player in the country, Carol Zhao [2] of Stanford. Kuhlman won the first set, 6-2, but Zhao regrouped in the second set and never looked back in the third and earned the match victory, 2-6, 6-4, 6-0.
Kuhlman concludes her rookie season with a 37-11 overall singles record, leading her squad in overall singles wins on the year.
Austin and Keegan got off to a good start with a first set win over No. 5 Klara Fabikova and Zsofi Susanyi of California, 6-3, but the Cal duo went on to win the next two, 6-4, 6-4, to secure a spot in the final.
The duo ends the season with a 25-4 record as a pairing, closing the year with the most overall doubles wins for the Gators.
A deep run into the postseason individual events paired with a top-20 ITA singles ranking for Kuhlman and a top-10 ITA ranking for Austin and Keegan in the final poll of the season will have earned all three ITA All-American status.
