Dendy, Holloway Represent Gators with SEC Track & Field Athlete and Coach of Year Honors
Tuesday, June 2, 2015 | Track and Field
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Gators head coach Mike Holloway and senior jumper Marquis Dendy made it a clean sweep indoors and outdoors, as the duo picked up SEC Outdoor Men's Coach and Field Athlete of the Year honors, respectively, Tuesday from the league office following Florida's SEC Outdoor Championship in Starkville in May.
A five-time individual national champion, seven-time SEC Champion and 11-time All-American during his career at Florida so far, Dendy swept both the long jump and triple jump crowns at the 2015 SEC Outdoor Championships as the Florida men's team picked up its fifth outdoor title in program history, the first since 2010. The indoor school record-holder in both the long and triple jump, Dendy has swept both horizontal jumps in every championship meet since NCAA Outdoors last year: NCAA Outdoors, SEC Indoors, NCAA Indoors and SEC Outdoors. Dendy will compete in both the long and triple jumps in Eugene next week looking to defend his crowns in both.
Behind every great team is a great coach, and for that, Holloway picked up his second SEC Outdoor Coach of the Year honor Tuesday (2010, 2015). Holloway has five national titles -- including back-to-back outdoor titles in 2012 & 2013 -- to his credit. Florida enters NCAA Outdoors ranked No. 1 in the National Team Computer Rankings with 13 event entries, third-most in the country.
Dendy and Holloway were the 2015 SEC and USTFCCCA Indoor Regional Coach and Field Athlete of the Year, while Dendy went on to win National Indoor Field Athlete of the Year accolades.
