
Vucenovic Wins Serbian Javelin Title, Zunic Takes Croatian Shot Put Crown

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Rising redshirt junior Marija Vucenovic and former Gator Stipe Zunic each won national titles in their respective home countries this past weekend, adding to the successful summer Florida track & field athletes are already enjoying.
Vucenovic, a two-time USTFCCCA Outdoor All-American who redshirted in 2015, won the Serbian javelin throw title with a mark of 51.49m (168-11).
Zunic, the 2015 NCAA Division I Indoor National Champion in the shot put, claimed the Croatian shot put crown with a throw of 20.38m (66-10.5), narrowly edging Marin Premeru's mark of 20.31m (66-7.75).
The next round of Gators to compete in a summer international championship will take the field at the Pan American Junior Championships in Edmonton, Alberta later this week. Rising sophomores KeAndre Bates and Lloydricia Cameron, both of whom are coming off outstanding showings at the USATF Junior Outdoor Championships, don American uniforms on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
Bates, the long jump gold medalist at the USATF Junior Outdoor Championships, is set to participate in Friday's long jump final, which is scheduled for 8:10 p.m. ET. Cameron, the silver medalist in the discus throw and bronze medalist in the shot put at the USATF Junior Outdoor Championships, will compete in the discus final at 12:45 p.m. ET on Saturday.
