
Gator Great Lisa Raymond Falls in Wimbledon Quarterfinals

LONDON – Florida women's tennis legend, Lisa Raymond, and ladies' doubles partner, Cara Black, were defeated at The All England Lawn Tennis Club on Wednesday. The duo was defeated in the quarterfinals round by the No. 3-ranked doubles team, Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina of Russia, 6-3, 6-4, 8-6. The quarterfinals contest lasted two hours and fifteen minutes after being halted twice for rain delays.
The first round tested the gator great and her counterpart as they dropped the first set, 7-5 to Johanna Larsson and Petra Martic, but came back to take the next two sets and the match, 6-3, 7-5. In the second round, the doubles pair cruised to a victory in straight sets over Garbine Muguruza and Carla Suarez Navarro, 6-3, 6-1. Raymond and Black again came back from a set down in the third round to defeat the Russian pair of Alla Kudryavtseva and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, 6-2, 6-3, 6-4.
Raymond also competed in the mixed doubles event with fellow SEC alumnus, Neal Skupski. The two were defeated in the first round by Ivan Dodig and Ajla Tomljanovic, 7-6, 7-6.
The 2015 Wimbledon Championships was the 23rd time the gator legend has competed in the historic event. Raymond has captured a total of 11 Grand Slam titles: Women's Doubles Titles - 2001, 2005 & 2011 U.S. Open, 2006 French Open, 2001 Wimbledon, 2000 Australian Open; Mixed Doubles Titles – 2003 French Open, 1996 & 2002 U.S. Open, 1999 & 2012 Wimbledon. She spent the majority of the 2001 and 2002 seasons as the No. 1-ranked doubles player in the world and ended the 2012 calendar year as the No. 6-ranked player.
