EDMONTON, Alberta – Three Gator track & field athletes took part in the Pan American Junior Championships this past weekend, and each of them returned home with a medal.
Rising sophomore KeAndre Bates, this year's USATF Junior Outdoor long jump champion, took bronze in that very event at Foote Field on Friday night. The El Paso, Texas native leapt a wind-legal 7.54m (24-9) on his second attempt of the night, eventually holding off a fellow American, Nathaniel Moore, by one hundredth of a meter.
Lloydricia Cameron, also rising sophomore, collected the silver medal in Saturday's discus throw final. After entering her final attempt in third place, Cameron posted a mark of 51.98m (170-6) to end the evening in second place.
Incoming freshman Ryan Clark competed in the 200m, securing a bronze medal. Clark's time of 20.91 seconds in the preliminaries was the second-best overall time, while the 20.62 he clocked in the final was the third-fastest time he's ever run.
Several Gators will now turn their attention to the IAAF World Championships, which will be held in Beijing from August 22-30.
