
Gators in the Pros: Bangoura, Diep Fall in Late Rounds of Respective Futures

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Two former University of Florida men's tennis All-Americans went deep into their respective tournaments over the weekend. Sekou Bangoura lost in the quarterfinal round in singles at the Canada F9 Futures. In doubles, Florent Diep and Pirmin Haenel fell in the semifinal round at the Serbia F11 Futures.
The pairing of Diep and Haenle cruised through the round of 16 and quarterfinals, defeating each opponent 6-4, 6-0. In the semifinals, the duo was pitted against the Serbia team of Luka Ilic and Darko Jandric. The Serbians were able to walk away with a victory, 6-3, 6-2. The former Gator also reached the round of 16 in singles, falling to Nico Matic of Germany, 6-4, 6-3.
Bangoura used three sets in each of his matches over the weekend to reach the quarterfinals in singles. Patrick Daciek of the United States was defeated, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 in the main draw round of the 32. The round of 16 saw Bangoura drop the first set to Sami Reinwein of Germany, but the Bradenton, Fla.-native stormed back in the match to take the next two sets and the match, 2-6, 6-1, 6-1. Bangoura competed against fellow-American Chase Buchanan in the quarterfinals. The match was hard fought, but Buchanan edged Bangoura in the end, 6-7(5), 6-4, 5-7.
In doubles, Bangoura teamed up with fellow-SEC alumnus and former Georgia Bulldog, Nathan Pasha. The SEC duo fell in the main draw round of 16 to a pair of Big 12 Conference alumni, Nick Chappell (Oklahoma) and Dane Webb (TCU), 3-6, 7-5 [9-11].
