FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Kyra Jefferson posted a world-leading time in the 200 meters, but the University of Florida track and field's jumpers stole the show Friday (Jan. 29) evening at the Razorback Invitational.
The thrilling infield action began with the men's pole vault, which saw redshirt sophomore Aaron Owens match the No. 8-ranked indoor mark on Florida's all-time top 10. The Middleburg Heights, Ohio native cleared 5.21 meters (17-1) on his third and final attempt, equaling the mark set by Michael Hissam in 2000.
In the long jump, freshman Yanis David shined for the women, while sophomore KeAndre Bates was only outdone by a world-leading mark on the men's side.
David leapt 6.39 meters (20-11.75) on her second run of the night, tying the No. 2 indoor mark on UF's all-time top 10. Bates jumped 7.93 meters, moving him back up to the No. 3-ranked mark among Division I athletes this season.
The women's 200 meters was Florida's strongest event of the night.
Three Gators scored top-six finishes, highlighted by Jefferson's world-leading time of 22.72. Seniors Robin Reynolds (23.38) and Shayla Sanders (23.49) scored for Florida as well, clocking times that rank inside the top 16 of the NCAA Indoor Descending Order List.
Saturday's (Jan. 30) action will be broadcast live on SEC Network from 1:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. ET. It will be first-ever live track and field event the SEC Network has televised.

HEARING OUT (COACH) HOLLOWAY
On his overall takeaway from day one of the meet…
"I thought we had a good first day. Obviously there's always some things we can get better at. But, overall, a very good night. Very impressed with Kyra Jefferson. I thought the women in the 200 meters, as a whole, did a good job. Robin (Reynolds) and Shayla (Sanders) did very well. They all made some mistakes in the second turn, but it was our first 200 of the season. Very proud of all three of them.
"On the men's side in the 200, we've got some work to do. That was a total fiasco. But, hey, I'm the sprint coach. That's my fault. We will get back to Gainesville and get that fixed.
"Very proud of Aaron Owens, clearing 17 feet for the first time and having two good attempts at 17-7. KeAndre Bates did a great job in the long jump. He's well ahead of where he was at this point last year. And how about the freshman, Yanis David? Her first competition and she moves into the top five in school history."
On whether or not he expected this many Gators to start as strong as they have…
"Nothing we saw tonight surprised us. We were maybe a little surprised by Yanis, because she just got here … but that just shows us she is who we thought she was. But as far as everyone else, I don't think anyone was surprised Kyra ran that fast. It was a big run for her, very proud of her, but she knows we've got more work to do."
On his expectations for tomorrow…
"We have to come back out here and compete. There's a lot of great teams here, great competition. Everything we do tomorrow, we've got to turn the volume up just a little bit. I give you my word we will be better tomorrow."
