Seven ranked Gators push UF to No. 3 in ITA preseason rankings.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The University of Florida women's tennis team opens up the 2016 campaign as the No. 3-ranked team in the country with seven players in the ITA Preseason Rankings, highlighted by the No. 3-ranked singles player Belinda Woolcock and the No. 5-ranked doubles tandem of Brooke Austin and Kourtney Keegan.
After two semifinal finishes at the USTA/ITA Southeast Regional and the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, Woolcock has proven to be a top-5 caliber player for the Florida Gators. Reigning SEC Player and Freshman of the Year Brooke Austin begins the 2016 season at No. 11 followed by doubles partner Keegan who checks in at No. 25. UF is one of four schools-Florida, California, Virginia, and Miami-with two singles players in the Top-15.
Senior Brianna Morgan opens the 2016 campaign at No. 51, Josie Kuhlman sits at No. 56, redshirt junior Spencer Liang receives her first career ranking at No. 73 and newcomer Anna Danilina rounds out the Gator rankings at No. 110.
In doubles action, the Gators were firing on all cylinders throughout the fall season. The improvement in doubles showed immensely during the USTA/ITA Southeast Regional, where the Gators swept the field to return home for an all-Gator semifinal. Beginning the season at No. 5, Austin and Keegan look to build upon their impressive resumes that already include All-American status and reaching the NCAA Doubles semifinals last May.
After winning the USTA/ITA Southeast Regional Doubles title and advancing to quarterfinals of the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, Kuhlman and Woolcock come in at No. 15 in the ITA Preseason Doubles Rankings. Florida is the only program with two doubles pairs in the Top-15.
Kuhlman and Morgan are currently ranked No. 33 and Morgan and Danilina round of the Gators doubles rankings at No. 50.
The Gators open up the 2016 season on Wednesday, Jan. 27, when they take on South Florida at 4:00 p.m. at the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex.
