Gators head to Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational
Saturday, October 1, 2016 | Men's Golf
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The University of Florida men's golf team will head to Dallas, Texas, Sunday to continue their season at the Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational. This will be the first appearance in the tournament for Florida.
The Gators look to build on their victory at the Windon Memorial Classic, where they finished as the only team under-par. The Orange and Blue had a seven-stroke separation between them and the second-place finisher and saw three players end up in the top 10.
Sophomore Gordon Neale will attempt to continue his low-scoring season, as all six of his rounds have been even- or under-par.
Course Information: The 2016 Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational is being held at the par-70, 7,209-yard Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas.
Tournament Information: The tournament will be a three-day, 54-hole event.
Head Coach J.C. Deacon:
(on how winning the Windon Memorial Classic helps the team coming into the Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational) "Our goal for every tournament we are going to is to win, and to accomplish that last week is a reconfirmation that we're doing the right things and getting better as a group. Our confidence is going to be running high, but the guys understand that the field this week is legit and we're going to have to bring our absolute best to compete."
(on facing the high-caliber field at the Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational) "That's a huge reason why all the guys on our team came to the University of Florida. They wanted to play with the best and against the best and that's the type of schedule we play year in and year out. For most of our guys, the bigger the moment, the better they play and that's what we're looking forward to this week."
Tee Times:
Note: The first round is a shotgun start.
Lineup:
Sophomore Sam Horsfield (Davenport, Fla.): Horsfield lines up No. 1 for the Gators for the third tournament in a row. He holds the team's lowest round of the year, a 65 in his first round of the Carpet Capital, and has the second-most birdies this season with 23.
Sophomore Jorge Garcia (Anaco, Venezuela): Garcia is back in the two-spot for the second time this season. In his first appearance of the year at the Carpet Capital, two of his three rounds were under-par.
Sophomore Gordon Neale (Dove Canyon, Calif.): Neale is the only Gator this season with all six of his rounds being counted to the team score. He also leads the team in eagles (two) and rounds even or under par (six—every round he's played).
Senior Ryan Celano (Naples, Fla.): Celano appears in the lineup for the second straight tournament and his third tournament overall. He leads the team in birdies (24) and will look to build off the momentum of his top-10 finish at the Windon Memorial Classic.
Junior Alejandro Tosti (Rosario, Argentina): Tosti looks to build off the improvement he saw during the Carpet Capital, scoring better every round. He is one of the three Gators who have an eagle this year.
