Gators wrap up fall season at Tavistock Collegiate
Saturday, October 15, 2016 | Men's Golf
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The University of Florida men's golf team will head to Windermere, Florida, Sunday to conclude its fall season at the Tavistock Collegiate Invitational. This will be the ninth appearance in the tournament for Florida.
The Gators look to finish in the top five four the fourth time this fall. Florida will hope to build off of a Nike Golf Invitational in which it carded its two lowest scores of the year (275, 277).
Sophomore Gordon Neale will attempt to continue his low-scoring season, as he looks to add to his team-leading 33 birdies.
Course Information: The 2016 Tavistock Collegiate Invitational is being held at the par-72, 7,544-yard Isleworth Golf and Country Club in Windermere, Florida.
Tournament Information: The tournament will be a three-day, 54-hole event.
Head Coach J.C. Deacon:
(on playing in another tournament with such a high level of competition) "We are really looking forward to it. This is a tournament that we've played every year since I've gotten here. We have a couple of guys from Orlando and the guys know Isleworth really well. We're going to really enjoy this week and being together competing in such a great field and hopefully we can bring our best."
(on being in the same grouping as Vanderbilt after Vanderbilt edged out Florida for the win at the Nike Golf Invitational two weeks ago) "We love the guys on Vanderbilt. Our guys have a great relationship with all of their players, so we'll really enjoy it. At the same time, we all want to play with the best and against the best to see where our game stacks up and obviously with this grouping we'll have opportunity to do that."
(on what the team can do to finish the fall season on the right foot and gain momentum for the spring) "We've got to play one shot at a time. That's going to help us get off to a good start. Hopefully we can get into contention and have a chance to win because that's why we play, why we work so hard. In our home state and at a place like Isleworth, that's exactly what we're shooting for.
Tee Times:
Lineup:
Sophomore Sam Horsfield (Davenport, Fla.): Horsfield rounds out his fall season in the No. 1 spot, where he has been for all four tournaments thus far. He has the best round on the team this year, a 65 at the Carpet Capital Collegiate.
