The former Gators Athletic Director to be honored in Tampa on Tuesday night.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Former Gators Athletic Director Jeremy Foley -- yes, still sounds strange for now -- is less than two weeks into his "retirement" following a 40-year career at Florida.
Foley has received numerous awards over his career, but tonight in Tampa, he'll be recognized as a Hall of Famer.
Foley will be inducted into the Florida Sports Hall of Fame during an induction ceremony at TPepin's Hospitality Centre along with a distinguished group of inductees known very well in the Sunshine State and beyond.
Foley's five-member induction class includes former NFL coach Jon Gruden, NHL great Phil Esposito, Olympic gold medalist sailor Allison Jolly, and former big leaguer Johnny Damon.
A lifelong Red Sox fan and son of New England, Foley is likely as excited to talk with Damon about the 2004 Red Sox ending the Curse of the Bambino as he is his induction.
Foley retired from his post as UF's athletic director on Nov. 1 after serving in that role since March 1992. He began his sports administrative career at UF as an intern in the ticket office fresh out of graduate school in 1976.
Twenty-seven national titles as athletic director and 130 Southeastern Conference titles later, Foley has a new title: Hall of Famer.
