David Reese, Eddy Pineiro and Tyrie Cleveland were rewarded for their efforts at LSU
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – After its SEC East-clinching win at LSU on Saturday, Florida was rewarded with three SEC weekly honors. On Monday, the Southeastern Conference named David Reese as Defensive Player of the Week, Eddy Pineiro as Special Teams Player of the Week and Tyrie Cleveland as Freshman of the Week.
All three played big roles in the Gators' 16-10 victory in Death Valley, which earned them a trip to the SEC Championship in Atlanta.
On the defensive side of the ball, David Reese made his second-career start, filling in for injured linebacker Jarrad Davis. Reese led Florida in tackles for the second-straight week with 12, surpassing his previous season-high of 11 tackles that he made against South Carolina. He helped limit LSU to 219 rushing yards, under its season average of 233.6 yards per game, which had ranked third in the SEC. Tiger running backs Leonard Fournette and Derrius Guice had entered Saturday's game averaging 133.8 and 97.9 yards on the ground, respectively. Fournette was held to 40 yards, while Guice scored LSU's only touchdown of the game and rushed for just 83 yards.
Eddy Pineiro accounted for 10 of Florida's 16 points, connecting on field goals of 36, 26 and 34 yards and also adding an extra point. His five kickoffs averaged 63.2 yards per kick, and four went for touchbacks, limiting LSU's kickoff return game. LSU's only kickoff return resulted in a fumble, which was recovered by Florida at LSU's 21-yard line and led to one of Pineiro's field goals.
Offensively, Cleveland was part of a huge play for Florida, opening UF's second-half scoring with a 98-yard touchdown reception from Austin Appleby. The scoring drive, which lasted just one play, began on Florida's first possession in the third quarter and gave the Gators a lead they would not relinquish. Cleveland's touchdown stands as the second-longest touchdown passing play overall, the longest touchdown passing play against an SEC opponent and the longest play by a true freshman in program history. In total, Cleveland was responsible for all but 20 of Florida's receiving yards. With his 124 receiving yards, he became the third true freshman in Florida football history to have a 100-yard receiving game (Reidel Anthony, 1994; Antonio Callaway, 2015).
Reese, Pineiro and Cleveland are all first-time SEC weekly award winners and join Martez Ivey, who has won the offensive lineman award twice in 2016, as Florida's four recipients so far this season.
The list of SEC Players of the Week selections for Week 12 is as follows:
OFFENSE – Rawleigh Williams III, RB, Arkansas

SPECIAL TEAMS – Eddy Pineiro, PK, Florida
FRESHMAN – Tyrie Cleveland, WR, Florida
