His individual times at Georgia Tech are all tops in the nation
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – After No. 9 Florida's second-place finish at the Georgia Tech Invitational last week, junior Caeleb Dressel has received the SEC Male Swimmer of the Week honor, the Southeastern Conference announced Tuesday.
This is Florida's first SEC weekly honor this season.
Dressel showed off his prowess in the pool at the invitational, swimming four individual events and four relays and not finishing lower than second on any. He won all four individual events – the 200 IM (1:42.77), 50 free (19.28), 100 fly (44.86) and 100 free (41.60) – and registered B-cuts on the 200 IM and 50 free and A-cuts on the 100 fly and free. Individually, he was responsible for 104 points toward Florida's team total of 1,252 points.
Along with his teammates on the relay squads, he placed second in the 200 and 400 free relays and the 200 and 400 medley relays. In the 200 free relay, made up of Dressel, Enzo Martinez-Scarpe, Jan Switkowski and Mark Szaranek, the squad put up an A-cut time of 1:17.29, and Dressel's leadoff split of 18.73 also qualified as a 50 free A-cut. The 400 free relay of Maxime Rooney, Szaranek, Dressel and Switkowski put up a 2:51.10 A-cut as well.
Dressel swam the breaststroke leg in the 200 medley relay, splitting 23.51 to go along with the 1:26.27 team time, and took over the anchoring freestyle leg in the 400 medley relay, splitting 41.90 for a 3:10.48 total time.
His three individual A-cuts were the most of any other male competitor at the meet.
