Delicia Washington Named SEC Freshman of the Week

Washington sparked the Gator's fourth-quarter rally against Temple.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Gator Delicia Washington was named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.
This is the second week the award has been presented this season and the first time a Gator has garnered an individual honor.
The Gators played just one game last week and it was a big win, as the team rallied for an 83-76 victory against Temple. Washington played a large role in that comeback. She came up with one of her three steals to begin the fourth quarter and ran the court for the layup. That defensive play and bucket ignited a game-changing 18-2 run and Florida wouldn't trail again.
Washington, who corralled a team-best nine rebounds during the win, also netted the first double-figure scoring game of her career, with eight of her 10 points coming during a crucial point late in the third quarter and into the fourth, as the Gators were in the process of erasing a seven-point deficit entering the fourth quarter.
Washington, a 5-10 guard from Glen St. Mary, Florida, has started all three games for the No. 16-ranked Gators and averaged 7.3 points, 6.0 rebounds and has shot 57.9 percent (11-19) from the floor.
The Gators play at Arkansas State tonight, with tipoff from the Convocation Center in Jonesboro, Ark., scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET/5:30 p.m. CT.
