It took several tie-breakers, but the U.S. wins Group C. Both the U.S. (1-0-2, 5 points) and France (1-0-2, 5 pts) finished deadlocked on points, goal difference (+2) and goals scored (4). After the points earned from the group games, the teams went five tie-breakers deep before it came to the "greater number of points obtained in the fair play conduct based on yellow and red cards received in all group matches." The U.S. won that tie breaker as no yellow cards were given to U.S. while France had one issued in the final day of group play.
Next up, the U.S. faces Mexico in U-20 World Cup quarterfinal action at the Sir John Guise Stadium in Port Moresby. The match can be seen Friday, Nov. 25, at 1 a.m. ET on FS1 and NBC Universo.
