Three University of Florida Student-Athletes Named to GTE Academic All-District Teams

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Three University of Florida student-athletes were named to the 1998-99 GTE Academic All-District Fall/Winter At-Large team. Senior Erin Baxter, co-captain of UF's 1998 NCAA champion soccer team, was named to the GTE Academic All-District first team for the third consecutive year. As a member of the district's first team, Baxter now advances to the national ballot, with those results being announced April 22. Making their first appearance on the GTE Academic All-District second team is swimmer Jennifer Hommert and soccer player Sarah Yohe.
Baxter, a senior midfielder from Littleton, Colo., is a marketing major with a 3.96 cumulative grade point average. Baxter was an All-America first-team selection by Soccer America and College Soccer Weekly. She was also selected to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and ESPN/Soccer Times All-America second teams. Baxter was named the MVP of the 1998 Southeastern Conference Tournament and also earned a spot on the Academic All-SEC Honor Roll for the third consecutive year. She was named to the GTE Academic All-America first team as a junior after being a second-team selection as a sophomore.
Yohe, a junior forward/midfielder from Maitland, Fla., owns a 3.47 GPA in marketing. She scored UF's only goal in its NCAA semifinal win over Santa Clara and was named to the NCAA Championship All-Tournament Team. Yohe also earned SEC Player of the Week honors on Sept. 22 after scoring three goals, including two game-winners, against Georgia and Hartford. She was a repeat selection to the Academic All-SEC Honor Roll.
