UF Women’s Golf Tied for Third After Opening Round in New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The No. 11 Gator women's golf team opened play on Sunday at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate, in New Orleans, La. The Gators posted a Round 1 team score of even-par 288 and are tied with tournament host Tulane for third at the par-72, 6,239-yard English Turn Golf Club.
Junior Maria Torres was solid throughout the opening round, finishing bogey free and adding three birdies to match her collegiate-best mark with a 3-under 69. Junior Karolina Vlckova and sophomore Taylor Tomlinson both played steady to card even par in Round 1. Torres is tied for second overall, while Vlckova and Tomlinson are tied for 14th at the three-day event.
No. 12 Arizona and No. 13 Oklahoma State lead the 17-team field team at -1 (287), while Lauren Kim from Stanford is on top of the individual leaderboard at -4 (68).

"I'm happy to be in the hunt of the tournament after the first day. I saw a lot of good things from the team today. We played solid on some of the challenging stretches of the course, and I thought we managed pretty well. The forecast is not great for the next couple days, so focus and toughness will be our main goal."
