Florida's title in the 4x400-meter relay marked its ninth in school history and first since 2010.
No. 10/3 Gators Both Finish Fourth at SEC Indoor Championships
Saturday, February 27, 2016 | Track and Field
Florida flashed its potential as an NCAA Indoor Championships contender on both sides this weekend
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Florida track and field program finished fourth on the men's side and tied for fourth on the women's side, respectively, at the SEC Indoor Championships.
Florida collected its lone individual title in the men's 4x400-meter relay, which ran a nation-leading 3:04.02. The title was the ninth in program history and its first since 2010. The time from the crew of Eric Futch, Kunle Fasasi, Najee Glass, and Arman Hall also ranks fourth on UF's all-time indoor top 10.
Returning from injury, Hall recorded top-three finishes and top-16 Division I times in both the 200 and 400 meters races as well, capping a strong comeback weekend.
Andres Arroyo's record-breaking performance in the 800 meters was also a bright spot for the No. 10 Gators.
Arroyo clocked a time of 1:46.20, which, were it not for Texas A&M freshman Donavan Brazier's 1:46.08, would have set an SEC Indoor Championships record. Instead, he broke Mark Everett's 26-year-old school record, set back at the 1990 SEC Indoor Championships. Prior to tonight, it was Florida's oldest indoor record.
In the women's triple jump, Darrielle McQueen and Yanis David posted a 2-3 finish for the No. 3 Gators. McQueen also recorded a 10-inch personal record (13.61 meters), moving her up to No. 3 on the school's all-time indoor top 10.
UF's men racked up 61 points on day two and totaled 64.33 for the meet. The women amassed 52 points and closed the weekend with 64 points. Unfortunately, their valiant efforts on Saturday (Feb. 27) evening were not enough to top either of Arkansas' clubs. The top-ranked Razorbacks scored 109 points on the men's side, and its fourth-ranked women recorded 110 points.
A highlight-based replay of the meet will be broadcast from 7-9 p.m. ET Sunday (Feb. 28) on ESPN.

HEARING OUT (COACH) HOLLOWAY
Head coach Mike Holloway on the men's 4x400-meter relay team's nation-leading time…
"I think the biggest thing with those four guys is that, at the beginning of the year, we thought we had a special group. This is the first time they've all been able to get together and run it healthy. For them to do that … I thought that was phenomenal. I challenged them before the race to go out there and put up a special time. Very pleased to see that."
On Arman Hall's strong return to the track this weekend…
"He's a special athlete. And if you talk to anyone that knows him, they'll tell you that when he's healthy and ready to run, he has no fear. That's what you saw today. I'm excited to see what it brings with two more weeks of training and sharpening before the national meet. It's great to have him back. It's great to have Najee (Glass) back."
On Andres Arroyo breaking Mark Everett's 26-year-old school record in the 800 meters…
"I know he took second place, but he broke a school record (held) by an Olympian. I'm really proud of him and the weekend he had. The biggest thing with that was that his training marks have shown he was ready to do that. It was good to see him go out and run well. He was happy and really pleased with the way it turned out."
On Darrielle McQueen's and Yanis David's 2-3 finish in the triple jump…
"Anyone that knows Darrielle knows she's a passionate person. That was really special to watch her do that tonight. Yanis, again, for a young lady who's only been on campus for about six weeks, very impressed with her. We're really excited about the future with her once we get her, as we like to say, Gator fit.
On Jontavia Dykes scoring in the weight throw, Taylor Tubbs' mile run…
"Coach Lemke has this thing where he walks down to my office every now and again and says, 'So and so is going to throw far.' He said that about Jontavia the other day. I remember during the recruiting process he was really excited about her and her prospects as a weight and hammer thrower.
"Taylor Tubbs in the mile, she just keeps chipping away and getting a little bit better. It was good to see her stick her noes in there again today."
On the overall takeaway from fourth-place finishes with nationals on the horizon…
"After this meet, we've shown we are a pretty good nationals team. We will have to get back and see who gets into the (NCAA Indoor Championships). I think we're pretty solid where we need to be. Now that we're there, we have to get them right, prepared mentally and physically, and make sure they're good with that. The big thing right now is that I'm not going to talk to them about nationals. I'm going to talk about preparation for getting there, and making sure that, when we do get there, we're healthy … and making sure they're mentally right and believe and trust in their training."
