Torres Tabbed SEC Women’s Golfer of the Week

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – University of Florida women's golfer Maria Torres was named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week on Wednesday by the conference office. The junior led the No. 8 Gators to their fourth team title in their past five tournaments, an SEC-leading mark, on Sunday at the SunTrust Gator Invitational.

At the Gators' lone home tournament, Torres finished tied for fifth individually carding +5 (215), at the par-70 course. The Puerto Rico native has competed in the Gators' lineup in every event this season, leading the team with seven top-25 finishes. Torres' season scoring average of 72.13 leads the Orange and Blue and ranks ninth among SEC women's golfers.

Up Next for the Gators: The Orange and Blue will be back in action March 21-22 at the Briar's Creek Invitational in Johns Island, S.C. Florida will be looking to defend its victory from Briar's Creek last year.
