Aleshia Ocasio Named SEC Pitcher of the Week

Aleshia Ocasio garnered her first-career SEC Pitcher of the Week honor on Monday.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – After earning two wins and one save in 10 shutout innings last weekend at No. 7 LSU, University of Florida right-hander Aleshia Ocasio garnered Southeastern Conference (SEC) Pitcher of the Week honors, the league office announced Monday. The accolade marks her second-career SEC weekly award of her career. This is Florida's second weekly accolade this season.
Ocasio won Freshman of the Week honors last season after on March 2, 2015 after she defeated UCF and San Diego.
In Florida's three-game sweep of the Tigers this past weekend, Ocasio started game one of the series and relieved in the final two contests.
The sophomore gave up five hits and struck out eight batters in a complete-game effort to earn the win in the series opener. In game two, Ocasio relieved junior Delanie Gourley with runners on the first and second in the seventh inning and the game in a scoreless tie.
The St. Cloud, Fla. native induced a double play to get out of the seventh and then retired the next six LSU hitters she faced in extra innings.
In the series finale, Ocasio took over for rookie Kelly Barnhill with runners on first and second and two out in the bottom of the seventh. The sophomore recorded a groundout to the second hitter she faced to earn her fourth save of the season and secure the series sweep for the Gators.
Ocasio has now appeared in eight of Florida's nine SEC games this season. The sophomore is 5-1 with two saves, 22 strikeouts and eight walks in 25.2 innings pitched.
After she threw 10.0 scoreless innings this weekend, Ocasio ran her scoreless innings streak to 19.0. Her season and career long streak is 20 innings.
Overall, Ocasio is 12-1 this season and has the lowest ERA in the country (0.36).
