The six honorees is one shy of the program record.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Six members of the women's basketball team were among 48 University of Florida student-athletes on the 2016 Southeastern Conference Winter Academic Honor Roll, announced Friday by league commissioner Greg Sankey.
The 2016 SEC Winter Academic Honor Roll is based on grades from the 2015 Spring, Summer and Fall terms. Florida's SEC champion gymnastics and men's swimming & diving teams placed seven and 14, respectively, on the list. The women's swimming & diving team also saw 16 receive Academic All-SEC honors. The women's basketball team's six SEC Academic All-SEC representatives is one away from its all-time high and the men's basketball team placed five on the 2015-16 list.
To be recognized to the SEC Academic Honor Roll, each student-athlete must 1) have a GPA of 3.00 for either the preceding academic year or have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above at the nominating institution; 2) be on scholarship, a letterwinner or have participated on a varsity team for two years if non-scholarship; 3) have completed 24 semester hours of non-remedial credit at the nominating institution; and 4) have been a member of the varsity team for the sport's entire NCAA Championship segment.
Brooke Copeland, Viktorija Dimaite, Haley Lorenzen, January Miller, Carlie Needles and Isis Young each met the standard for earning the conference recognition. During Head Coach Amanda Butler's nine-year tenure in with the Gators, 20 different squad members have compiled 37 SEC Academic Honor Roll notice, numbers that do not include the SEC Freshman Academic Honor Roll list.
