GAINESVILLE, Fla. – School's out this Friday and two rising Gator seniors – Meggie Dougherty Howard and Savannah Jordan – will head from the University of Florida campus to Charlottesville, Va., for U.S. Under-23 Women's National Team. The training camp for 26 players runs from May 1-7.
Jordan, a NSCAA All-America first-team selection in 2015, was second in last season's NCAA standings with 24 goals and 55 points. The Southeastern Conference Offensive Player of the Year is currently among the top 10 on the following Florida career lists - No. 4 goals (65), No. 6 points (148), No. T2 game-winning goals (18) and No. 4 shots (342). Jordan was named to U.S. Under-23 team for Four Nations Tournament played in Norway at end of May of 2015.
This is Dougherty Howard's first call into a U.S. Under-23 camp. The midfielder earned All-SEC second team honors in 2015. Her eight assists stood second among the Gators in 2015 and was fifth in the league. During the summer of 2015, Dougherty Howard played for the 2015 USL W-League championship team, the Washington Spirit Reserves, in summer of 2015. She was a W-League Southeastern Conference team selection and was also named to the USL W-League All-League team.
Invites to U.S. age group camps have been arriving frequently for current and past Gators since last fall. Here's a look at the different U.S. camps Gators have attended since October of 2015.
Another Gator also involved in youth national team camps is rising sophomore Gaby Rivera. She attended a Mexico Under-20 National Team camp in Mexico City, Mexico. Mexico, along with the U.S., has qualified for the 2016 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup, set for Nov. 13-Dec. 3 in Papua New Guinea.
