Sam Horsfield Claims Fourth SEC Honor

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Winning his third tournament title and owning some of the conference's top statistics led University of Florida golfer Sam Horsfield to claim SEC Freshman Men's Golfer of the Week accolades, the conference announced Wednesday. The honor marks Horsfield's fourth weekly conference award in five spring tournaments.
Horsfield fired a 7-under 206 over the weekend to win the Mason Rudolph Championship, defeating teammate Gordon Neale by two strokes. He carded rounds of 70-70-66 en route to earning his third individual title this spring.
His stroke average of 70.30 ranks first among SEC freshmen and fourth among all SEC golfers. He is one of four SEC golfers with a conference-best three victories and the only SEC freshman with a trio of titles.
Florida travels to St. Simons, Ga., next week for the SEC Championship, which will be played April 15-17 at the Sea Island Golf Club.
