Pair of Gators headed to U.S. U-19 Camp

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A pair of Gators will be heading west next week for the third U.S. Under-19 Women's National Team camp. Rising Florida sophomores Mayra Pelayo and Briana Solis are among the 26 players who will be at May 14-21 camp at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Carson, Calif. The camp will be run by U.S. Soccer Development Coach Jitka Klimkova.
All the players in this age group are eligible for the team that will participate in the 2016 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup to be held later this year in Papua New Guinea, and will by trying to make an impression to get called into U-20 camps prior to the World Cup which begins in November.
During the 2015 season with the Gators, Pelayo was a member of the Southeastern Conference All-Freshman team, while starting 12 matches at midfield. She was also listed at No. 22 on Top Drawer Soccer's Postseason Top 100 Freshman list. Pelayo scored one goal and recorded three assists in her first season with the Gators.
Solis appeared in 20 matches in her freshman season with three starts. She scored her first goal versus Arkansas and registered assists in NCAA action versus Western Michigan and William & Mary.
This is the fourth U.S. age group camp invitation for Pelayo in 2016, while Solis will be attending her third U.S. U-19 camp since January. Pelayo now has a pair of invites each for U.S. U-19 and U.S. U-20 camps this year.
Invites to U.S. age group camps have been arriving frequently for current and past Gators since last fall. Here's a look at the different camps Gators have attended since October of 2015.
The Gators added a transfer, Parker Roberts, for the 2016 season. Roberts was named Wednesday to the U.S. roster for the training camp and a pair of matches to be played in Papua New Guinea, the site of the FIFA Under-20 World Cup.
