TULSA, Okla. – Junior Belinda Woolcock of the No. 3-ranked University of Florida women's tennis team advanced in the singles draw of the NCAA Individual Championships on Wednesday afternoon. The Gator will continue singles competition in the Round of 32 on Thursday morning.
Woolcock advanced after a straight set victory over Northwestern's Maddie Lipp. Each set needed a tiebreaker to determine the winner with the Australia native winning each 8-6 and 9-7, respectively. Fellow-junior Kourtney Keegan fell in the Round of 64 to the No. 3-ranked Francesca Di Lorenzo from Ohio State, 6-0, 7-5. Sophomore Brooke Austin was upset by No. 104 Katherine Ip of Rice University, 6-4, 5-7, 6-4
Keegan and Austin will begin competition in the doubles portion of the NCAA Individual Championships tomorrow afternoon. The No. 3-ranked duo will face off with a familiar NCAA opponent, Syracuse's Knutson and Garza. The Florida duo defeated the No. 27-ranked pairing, 6-3 on May 14 in the NCAA Second Round in Gainesville.
