Florida is Preseason Pick for 2016 SEC Title

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The University of Florida is picked to repeat as Southeastern Conference champions in 2016. The league's preseason coaches' vote was released by the SEC Thursday afternoon.
The Gators received 165 points that included 10 first-place votes, topping Texas A&M's 154 points (four first-place votes).
Points were compiled on a 13-12-11-10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 basis, though each coach was not allowed to vote for their own team.
In addition, five SEC teams appear in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) national preseason poll – No. 7 Florida, No. 8 Texas A&M, No. 12 Auburn, No. 22 Mississippi and No. 24 South Carolina.
In 2015:
Florida swept SEC regular-season and tournament titles in 2015. The Gators took their 14th SEC title with an 8-2-1 record and claimed the program's 11th SEC Tournament title with a 2-1 win over Texas A&M in the final.
Three Gators have earned All-SEC honors during their careers. Three-time All-American forward Savannah Jordan is also a three-time All-SEC first-team selection and has twice been named the SEC Offensive Player of the Year (2013, 2015). Fellow senior Meggie Dougherty Howard was a 2015 All-SEC second team selection at midfield. In addition, redshirt junior Gabby Seiler was a 2014 All-SEC first-team selection while with Georgia. She transferred to UF after the 2014 season and sat out 2015 action due to SEC transfer rules.
Jordan led not only the Gators in goals and points the last three years, she's also ranked among the SEC and NCAA leaders. In the final 2015 NCAA stats, Jordan ranked No. 2 in goals (24) and points (55).
Season Opener:
Soccer kicks off Florida's 2016-17 athletic season by playing host to Iowa State on Friday, Aug. 19. Match time is set for 7 p.m. at the James G. Pressly Stadium and admission is free for all Gator soccer regular-season events.
Florida plays one more preseason match before the Aug. 19 opener. The Gators are at South Florida on Saturday, Aug. 13 for a 7 p.m. meeting at the Corbett Stadium. This is Florida's second trip to Tampa this week, as the Gators defeated preseason No. 8 Texas A&M 2-1 Monday when the two teams played at Ed Radice Field.
