Track & Field
- Rising senior Andres Arroyo (Puerto Rico) took third place in Heat 2 of the men's 800 prelims, nabbing an automatic berth in Saturday (Aug. 13) night's semifinals, which are scheduled for 9:05 p.m. ET.
- Full Track and Field Daily Recap
- Team USA announced earlier today that Caeleb Dressel would anchor the Americans in the 4x100 MR heats, in which the stroke order is backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and freestyle. Dressel has swum the same freestyle distance, 100 meters, twice before in the Games in the 100 free and 4x100 free relay. This time, Dressel split 47.74 en route to a 3:31.83 USA finish. The team won its heat and finished second overall, advancing to tomorrow night's final. Dressel will likely be switched out in the freestyle position for three-time Olympian Nathan Adrian -- however, should the Americans medal, Dressel and the rest of the heats team will receive a medal as well.
- Kelly Murphy and Team USA remained undefeated in pool play with a 3-1 victory over Italy. Murphy notched five spikes and a block to help the Americans win their fourth consecutive match. Murphy and Team USA have arleady secured a quarterfinal spot and conclude pool play Sunday at 4:05 p.m. ET against China.
- Aury Cruz and Team Puerto Rico fell to Netherlands in straight sets. Cruz tallied five spikes and one ace in the loss. Cruz and Team Puerto Rico finish pool play Sunday at 2:00 p.m. ET versus Italy.
