GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Caleb Brantley, Jarrad Davis and Martez Ivey have been named to the Rotary Lombardi Award watch list, the committee announced Thursday. The Rotary Lombardi Award is presented annually to a player who demonstrates outstanding performance and skill in offensive or defensive positions and best exemplifies the discipline, virtue and wisdom that defined Vince Lombardi's exceptional brand of leadership.
In 2015, Caleb Brantley was named to Pro Football Focus' All-American second team and appeared in 13 games with 10 starts. He totaled 29 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss and three sacks.
Jarrad Davis was a Gridiron Now All-SEC second team member last season, starting 12 games and appearing in two more. He ranked second on the Gator defense and 11th in the SEC in tackles with 98 and third on the team in tackles for loss with 11, and he also grabbed an interception. Davis has already been picked to the Coaches' Preseason All-SEC Team, the Butkus Award watch list (honoring the country's best collegiate linebacker) and the Chuck Bednarik Award watch list (honoring the best collegiate defensive player) for the 2016 season, among other accolades.
Martez Ivey played in 12 games during the 2015 season and started the last eight, earning a position on the SEC Coaches All-Freshmen team. On October 17 at LSU, Ivey's first start of his Florida career, he became the 25th UF true freshman offensive lineman since 2000 to start a game. Ivey and the rest of the Gator offensive line helped Kelvin Taylor rush for over 1,000 yards, the ninth Gator all time to do so.
The Rotary Lombardi Award watch list is comprised of players who have earned All-American honors, been named to their respective all-conference teams or received 2016 preseason honors. In addition to the preliminary watch list, a nomination period will open to the internal selection committee to add additional players who meet the award standards.
The award ceremony date will be announced later in the season, along with an updated list of award candidates.
