Maria Torres has strong showing at U.S. Women’s Amateur

Gainesville, Fla. – University of Florida senior Maria Torres finished the 2016 U.S. Women's Amateur at the Rolling Green Golf Club in Springfield, Pa. on Thursday in the Quarterfinals of match play.
Competing for her native Puerto Rico, Torres ended stroke play three strokes under par and tied for ninth place. She would go on to defeat Jaravee Boonchant (Thailand) in the Round of 64, Shannon Brooks (U.S.A.) in the Round of 32, and Dylan Kim (U.S.A.) in the Round of 16 before falling to Virginia Elena Carta (Italy) in the Quarterfinals.
Also competing for the Gators at the U.S. Women's Amateur was junior Taylor Tomlinson. Tomlinson ended stroke play in a nine-way tie for the last five spots available in match play, and was unable to advance after carding a +1 and E on holes No. 10 and 11 in the playoff.
